The viewfinder features a spherical acute matte focusing screen that provides a bright, clear view, making it easier to see your subject and compose your shots. Unlike conventional focusing screens, the spherical acute matte focusing screen also makes it easier to visually confirm focusing sharpness, so you can enjoy uncompromising clarity, brightness and the ability to shoot with complete confidence.

For action photography and moving subjects, continuous shooting is the way to go. Just switch into Continuous mode to enjoy ultra-high-speed film advance of up to 3 frames per second*, with the assurance that at least one of the shots will capture the moment that memories are made of.

The built-in flash has a guide number of 16, and provides powerful illumination with up to 28mm wide-angle coverage. It offers a choice of Auto Flash, Fill Flash and Flash Cancel modes, as well as a Red-Eye Reduction mode that's perfect for parties and indoor events. When used in combination with any of the (D) series lenses, ADI (Advanced Distance Integration) assures proper illumination of your subject even when shooting against a very dark or light background. External Maxxum Flash units can also be used, including the powerful and compact 2500 (D), and the high-performance 3600HS (D) and 5600HS (D) with wireless high-speed synchronization and other advanced features.

With the Maxxum 70, you can fine-tune the focus manually during AF shooting; when the shutter has been released, the camera will automatically revert to AF mode.

Positioned for easy operation with your right thumb, so you can switch between manual and AF modes without taking your eye away from the viewfinder.

A quick press of the Preview Button lets you confirm depth of field and check if the background is appropriately defocused on portraits and close-up shots.

Separate dials are provided for shooting mode and function selection, so changes can be made on the fly without fumbling or hesitation.

Exposure compensation and auto bracketing are provided to help you achieve your creative goals in a wide range of shooting situations.
