To achieve truly responsive operation, autofocus has been speeded up through the use of new technology. And, because the DiMAGE 7i includes various focusing options, you can capture so many different types of scenes with outstanding accuracy, speed, and comfort.

Accurate focusing is ensured by a wide-area autofocus, composed of three focusing blocks and a center cross hair, that responds superbly to varying levels of contrast. Also, you can switch from the wide focus area to spot focusing when it better suits your composition. The CCD's automatic gain adjustment feature allows you to focus in low lighting without an AF illuminator.

This feature gives you quick and easy control over focus even when autofocus is locked. With the shutter button half-pressed, simply turn the focusing ring on the lens barrel to frame your shot as desired. Direct Manual Focus is useful during macro imaging, for example, when you want to be sure that a specific part of your subject stays in focus.

|
With Flex Focus Point (FFP), you can move the cross hair focus point to any position within the frame. It is a handy feature for keeping off-center subjects in sharp focus, or for focusing on one subject within a group. FFP is also effective in macro imaging situations.

The DiMAGE 7i offers shutter speeds as fast as 1/4,000 second during image capture in P and A modes. These speeds are complemented by a shortened shutter release time lag, to give you greater control over the precise moment that gets captured. As for exposure, calibration is performed by the high-precision autoexposure with 300-segment metering.

When you want to shift into high gear, select Ultra High Speed continuous advance for a blazing approx. 7 frames-per-second in SXGA resolution (1,280 x 960 pixels). This boosted speed is made possible by the camera's new progressive SXGA scan method. Full-size images (2,560 x 1,920 pixels) can be taken rapidly as well, at a maximum rate of 2 fps.
