The DiMAGE A1 offers not only a wide shooting range, but outstanding color as well. One key to this is Konica Minolta's new image processing LSI. As shooting conditions change, the incoming CCD signal is precisely calibrated for white balance, contrast, color reproduction, and other factors. The LSI delivers excellent results with noise reduction, especially in the flat areas of an image, and leads to shots that appear strikingly natural. In addition to improved color processing, the new LSI also has the advantages of lower power consumption and faster processing—the DiMAGE A1 records JPEG images on a CompactFlash card at 1.5x the speed of the DiMAGE 7i/7Hi.

Another key to clearer colors is the CxProcess II. By balancing several factors, this exclusive algorithm yields vivid colors that faithfully reflect your impression of the scene. CxProcess II operates on highly refined 14-bit color data, which provides impeccable detail in shadow and highlight areas, plus remarkably subtle gradations.

The DiMAGE A1 is the world's first digital still camera with a 5.0 megapixel, 2/3-type progressive scan CCD. Thanks to progressive scanning, the DiMAGE A1 can rely on an electronic shutter and offer ultra-fast shutter speeds. Also, the live view of the scene is exceptionally clear. And because of the CCD's high resolution, you can capture detail-rich images which are perfect for enlargement—up to A3-size (43.3 x 32.5 cm) at 150dpi printer resolution. To enhance color reproduction, the CCD is equipped with a primary color filter.

Superior quality optics are essential to bring out the best in a high-resolution CCD. And that's where Konica Minolta expertise comes in. The GT Lens is an all-glass APO zoom lens designed specifically for digital photography. It has 16 elements in 13 groups, with 2 AD (anomalous dispersion) glass elements to ensure maximum color fidelity and 2 aspheric elements to suppress distortion at the outer edges of an image.

The Minolta GT Lens provides an expansive 7x optical zoom range, including a 28mm wide angle that is ideal for landscapes and architectural images (indoor or outdoor). Digital zoom doubles your range.
Focal lengths are 35mm film camera equivalents. |

For more flexibility with close-up composition, macro imaging works at either telephoto or wide angles. The front of the lens and your subject can be as close as 13cm (Tele) or 21cm (Wide). To start shooting, you simply flick the Macro switch on the lens barrel.

At the fast end, the DiMAGE A1 relies solely on an electronic shutter to freeze the moment, and provides stable AE operation. At shutter speeds over 1 second, you can turn on the slow shutter noise reduction function and create high-quality time exposures.

Lens aperture can be stopped down to F11 at wide and telephoto angles, giving you greater control over depth of field. In addition, exposure can be adjusted in 1/3EV increments.

The DiMAGE A1 has a wide variety of capture settings to match your needs. For professional applications, Extra Fine mode lets you capture images in near-lossless JPEG (a low-compression format) and RAW mode supplies uncompressed color data. Capture sizes in all file format are 5 megapixel, 3 megapixel, 2 megapixel, and VGA (640 x 480).
