8.0 megapixel resolution for breathtaking detail NEW

Great Quality

With 8.0 megapixels at your command, you'll be able to create more subtly refined digital images than ever. Portraits will seem richer as each hair, each fiber stands out more clearly. Landscapes, too, will appear more life-like through enhanced detail. And if you look closely, you'll notice that details are sharper than usual, a benefit of the larger size of the 2/3-type CCD. Your images will look great as enlargements: up to A2-size (approx. 42 x 59 cm / 17 x 23 inches) at 150 dpi. The higher resolution will give you more flexibility with cropping as well.

Total CCD pixel count: 8.3 megapixels

Images optimized by an advanced LSI

Every scene is different, requiring a different kind of processing. The DiMAGE A2 features an advanced LSI to tackle this complexity. White balance, contrast, and color reproduction are optimized with an exceptional degree of accuracy. Noise that tends to occur in the low-contrast areas of digital images is effectively suppressed, with no loss of image quality. And while quality is boosted, so is your shooting timethe LSI is remarkably energy-efficient.

Colors faithful to your impressions from CxProcess TM II

"Colors should come out just the way you see them." Seems like a simple concept, but not all digital cameras are up to the task. The DiMAGE A2 succeeds because of its image processing technology, CxProcess II, which balances several key traits of your images. As a result, colors stay vivid but not unnaturally so. Noise during slow-shutter imaging is significantly reduced as well.

Compared to the original CxProcess (in blue), the new CxProcess II (in yellow) strikes a stronger balance among several factors by which image quality is judged. Images appear more life-like than ever as a result of this balance.

All-glass APO lens system designed exclusively for digital photography

The Konica Minolta GT Lens does exactly what a superior quality lens system is supposed to, ensuring that light gets to the CCD sensor with utmost fidelity. It has 16 elements in 13 groups, including two AD glass elements to reduce flare, chromatic aberration, and image distortion. This lens system has been designed to maximize the quality of the 8-megapixel CCD. And because it is built-in, you never run the risk of getting dust on the CCD, as can happen with interchangeable lenses. The GT Lens also offers a remarkably wide zoom range for your needs.

Details of the high-quality GT Lens

High-performance optical system with 16-element, 13-group lens construction
The GT Lens of the DiMAGE A2 achieves high magnification within a compact design. Zooming involves movement of the 1st to 4th components. The 4th component is the focusing lens group, which is moved to adjust focus. Because this lens group is very light (each lens weighs approx. 1.1 gram), the camera's focusing mechanism can be smooth and fast. Another key characteristic of the GT Lens is its short focusing distance (as close as 50 cm) at all focal lengths. In macro mode, focusing distance can be as close as 13 cm.

Benefits of AD glass elements and aspheric elements
Two special AD (anomalous dispersion) glass elements are used in the 1st component to compensate for chromatic aberration, so that color blurring can be avoided. Molded glass aspheric elements are used in the 2nd and 3rd components to suppress curvilinear distortion, ensuring high quality from the center of the image to its edges. These aspheric elements also help keep the camera compact.

The GT Lens has focal lengths of 28 to 200 mm (35mm film camera equivalents), a range that covers the most popular focal lengths in photography. It also offers bright aperture settings from F2.8 to F3.5. This combination of zoom range and brightness is not matched by any 35mm interchangeable lens.
