CCD-shift mechanism provides stability over a wider range

Anti-Shake helps you overcome camera shake during handheld shooting. It keeps images steady at telephoto ranges where camera shake is more pronounced. And it can also compensate for different kinds of shake, from small twitches to larger body movement. Furthermore, in low-light conditions you can expect better images without relying on a higher ISO setting or tripod. Anti-Shake offers unrivaled stabilityup to 3 shutter speeds slower than digital cameras without a stabilization system. What makes it so effective is its unique CCD-shift mechanism. The CCD sensor rests on a movable mount, which shifts according to the amount of camera shake detected by the camera's motion detectors. Shifting occurs along the x, y-axes to cancel out the effects of camera shake. Unlike optical or electronic-based stabilization systems, Anti-Shake does not degrade image quality, so you can make the most of 8.0 megapixel resolution.

Compensation traits of image stabilization

The DiMAGE A2 is effective against a wider range of camera shake. This includes not only subtle, high-frequency shake (approx. 10 to 15 Hz), but also the low-frequency shake (approx. 1 to 2 Hz) caused by larger body movements.

Stable images from CCD shifting

The DiMAGE A2 is equipped with angular velocity sensors to detect camera shake. When shake occurs,
the CCD can be shifted vertically or horizontally to cancel the shake.
