When you're shooting a moving subject
such as a person moving toward you or a flower moving in the wind
3D AF keeps it sharp by tracking movement along three dimensions (x, y, and z axes). Then, when you press the shutter, 3D AF compensates for shutter lag with predictive focus control. Autofocusing is ultrafast so you don't miss the moment
in Fulltime AF, focusing starts just 0.18 seconds after you touch the grip sensor and Super Fine EVF. As for Single-shot AF, the DiMAGE A2 delivers enhanced precision, even in tricky lighting conditions, with its wide 11-point AF area and advanced subject detection algorithm.

The DiMAGE A2 turns on the speed when you need it
to capture a dynamic moment at a sporting event or the fleeting expression of a child, for example. You can shoot 8 megapixel images at a rate of 1.9 fps while 3D AF keeps the subject in focus. For even faster shooting, UHS (ultra high-speed) mode boosts your rate by almost 5 times
at 7 fps, you can capture images in VGA resolution (640 x 480). Anti-Shake stabilizes shooting in UHS mode.

Autofocusing in Full-time AF mode is as fast as 0.18 seconds — the fastest among 8.0-megapixel or higher SLR-type digital cameras with a 2/3-type CCD and a built-in lens system.* You'll be ready for your shot immediately. Full-time AF is available in either Single Shot AF mode or when Flex Focus Point and Continuous AF are used together.
* Focusing time with eye sensor ON. The fastest as of February 1, 2005.
