Primary contents

Highly detailed image with max. 11,000,000 pixels
(2,820 dpi resolution)
When it comes to digital imaging, more pixels mean more detail. The Dimâge Scan Dual II features a sensor capable of scanning at up to 2,820 dpi resolution, a level of precision which really makes a difference if you wish to enlarge images (or even a part of an image). As shown in these samples, the image scanned at a lower resolution becomes blocky or “pixelated” when enlarged; the same image captured at the higher resolution, however, is still detailed and life-like in its blown-up version. To make large-size glossy printouts, high resolution is a must.

12-bit A/D conversion for smoother, more faithful color gradations
Just as the Dimâge Scan Dual II offers more detail, it also provides you with more colors. That’s because this scanner can record four times the number of gradations from your film than a conventional, 10-bit model can. Digital images produced with this extended range have some big advantages. The gradations between colors are smoother and look more natural, and the shadow areas of the image are recreated with greater fidelity to the original.

Convenient USB interface

The Dimâge Scan Dual II is compatible with the Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. This means you can just plug the scanner into your Windows PC or Mac whenever you need to use it, without having to turn the computer off. Also, if your computer’s operating system supports Plug & Play, this USB interface reduces the trouble of setting up the scanner when you’re first getting started.

Autofocus for sharper images
An excellent feature not normally found in this class of film scanner, autofocus is a quick, easy way to ensure that images are produced with as much clarity as possible. And when you wish to adjust focus yourself – for example, to experiment with different effects – you can take advantage of the scanner’s two other modes, Point AF and manual. Point AF allows you direct autofocus to particular areas of the image.

The driver software: Minolta Easy Scan Utility
Designed especially for first-time scanner users, the Minolta Easy Scan Utility makes it fast and simple to scan your favorite photos. All you need to do is select the photo you want to scan and what you are going to use the image for – the software takes care of the rest! Image data is produced to best match your application. So, if you plan to send an image to a friend via e-mail, for example, the software will instruct the scanner to keep file size small.

Versatile scanning software for advanced users

The main scanning software included with the Dimâge Scan Dual II offers a wide selection of sophisticated features and settings. To start with, the software has a handy navigation menu that guides you step-by-step through the scanning process. You can customize scan settings and store these settings for future use.

Once your scan is completed, you can adjust the image using the various parameter controls such as tone-curve, histogram, brightness, contrast, and color-balance. A Snap-Shot function displays the compensated image and allows you save it temporarily. Another feature, the Variation Window, lets you adjust an image’s brightness, contrast, and color balance while comparing the effects with the original, unaltered data.
Auto Image Correction

Thanks to Auto Image Correction, it’s possible to get well-balanced images without having to make any of the adjustments yourself. This unique, Minolta-developed feature analyzes and compensates the image during scanning, and handles under- or over-exposed pictures as well as photos with heavy backlighting or low contrast.

Auto Image Correction is available on both the Minolta Easy Scan Utility and the main scanning software. When accessed from the main scanning software, users can set the scanner to optimize the image automatically, or select which type of correction they wish to make.

Examples
Under- or over-exposed pictures
Pictures with heavy backlighting
Pictures with low contrast

Efficient continuous scanning
Great for when you’re taking on big projects, the continuous scanning feature helps minimize the time and effort of getting multiple images into your computer. Without having to reload the scanner, you can scan six frames of a 35mm film strip, four frames of mounted 35mm slides, or up to 40 frames from an Advanced Photo System cartridge! Continuous scanning is yet another feature not commonly found in this class of film scanner.
